Once you return from your honeymoon, it's time to shift your focus from getting ready for your wedding day towards developing your married life together. If either or both of you changed your name when you became married, you'll want to do the following:
- Visit the Department of Motor Vehicles
- Request new Social Security card or cards
- Notify your credit card companies of your married name
- Let your insurance companies know of your changed name & update beneficiaries
- Revise your voting information with Westmoreland County
- Notify your employer, and have your IRA information updated
- Change your name with your household utilities
- Notify the U.S Postal Service
- Let any alumni associations or professional associations know of the name change
- Update your passport through the U.S. State Department
- Change your name on any other legal documents
- You may need to order new business cards
There are other things to tend to following your wedding:
- Send Thank You notes
- Make time for each other on a daily basis
- Merge your checking accounts and other financials, if that's what you intend, and order new checks
- Update your wills
- Figure out who handles which household chores or runs which errands
- Stop by a store that preserves your wedding flowers
- Visit a dry cleaner to preserve your gown
- Return any duplicated gifts
- Distribute photos or videos from Your Wedding Day
